Our Story

Empowering women around the globe to support themselves and their families with dignity by bringing their handmade goods to the world marketplace

The idea for Elevāt was conceived when Co-Founder Julie Johnson was visiting a developing nation. Her heart went out to women struggling to sell their beautiful handmade products in the streets for minimal profits in hopes of supporting their families.

After looking poverty in the face she knew she had to do something. That something was Elevāt.

The goal of Elevāt is to empower women to support themselves and their families out of dangerous situations.

Elevāt  helps this process by partnering with organizations around the globe to identify artisan women creating beautiful handmade fashion accessories in impoverished regions and bring them to the US marketplace.

Every product purchased helps women in developing countries build their own business, providing sustainable income that will also multiply to their surrounding communities giving a dignified and respectable way to earn a living.

Families in Poverty

Did you know that almost 3 billion people - half the world's population - live in poverty so extreme that they can barely survive? In addition, 2,548 million people live on less than $2 per day and 969 million people live on less than $1 per day.

Nearly half a billion people are trapped in chronic poverty -- poverty they experience over many years, often over their entire lives - and commonly pass poverty on to their children.  Those living in chronic poverty die prematurely from preventable causes and experience multidimensional deprivation -- hunger, malnutrition, illiteracy, lack of access to basic services, and social isolation and exploitation. They are economically active, but the poor quality, insecurity of work, and social discrimination impact their economic prospects and access to basic services.

Included in these numbers are women in impoverished regions who are unable to properly feed, clothe, house, or care for their families. Many of these women perform whatever action necessary to put food on the table or a roof over the heads of their children. These actions can be very dangerous and include selling their bodies, digging through dumpsters, begging, or stealing.

This is where Elevāt comes in. This is where YOU step in. Elevāt aims to provide these women with work that is safe and sustainable by purchasing handmade products they create with our partner organizations.

Providing quality and secure work will help empower women to elevate themselves and their families out of poverty, and multiply their efforts throughout local economies to elevate entire communities.

Every product you purchase...

Increases demand for locally sourced materials and resources to create the handmade goods...

Provides women with additional funds which in turn increases demand for local products and services they are now able to provide for their families...

Increases demand for schools, hospitals, and other community necessities these women are now able to afford...

Is multiplied and elevates the entire community...
